IT'S supposed to be a list of the who's who across the state, but the roll-call of names is more like, who?
The inaugural NSW version of the reference book, Who's Who, was released yesterday and includes more than 6000 names of notable Australians, ranging from film star Cate Blanchett to volunteers, designers and marriage celebrants.According to the publisher, Crown Content, the state edition follows the national version's lead by including people based on merit and by invitation only. Entry in the book cannot be purchased."This vibrant and useful networking guide recognises and reveres those who have helped make NSW what it is today," the publisher said. "Named together on the roll-call are unsung heroes and prominent public figures."Copies of the book, which feature the person's name, a detailed list of their achievements and their thoughts on what NSW means to them, cost $179 directly from the publisher.Illawarra names included in the inaugural state edition include Wollongong MP Sharon Bird, motorcycle champion Wayne Gardner and the University of Wollongong's John Hogg, Robin Chowdhury and John Glynn. Wollongong artist Nick Brash, interior decorator Carole Juric and volunteer worker Giulietta Bonacina also made the grade.Mr Brash said he was honoured."Not only is this a boost to my self-confidence and sense of purpose in life, but should also improve my prospects of getting a job," he said.
